You know what they say about planning

If you fail to plan; you plan to fail.  I feel that is what I am doing now.  DH and I have come to a stalemate over shopping and cooking. I come home from work exhausted not wanting to cook or figure out what to make (not in that order).

We have a vacation planned in our future.  This has brought on some anxiety on my part.  Seeing a recent gain on the scale this week and knowing that this is what happens when I don't plan.  While I know some of our meals will be in restaurants I do have some knowledge to help me make better decisions on meals.  With that said, I have planned to make a trip to Costco prior to leaving.  I will buy bottled water, PPV and car friendly snacks, and ingredients to make breakfasts and lunches to keep bad decision making to a minimum.

A co-worker recently went on a cross country road trip.  She is one of the most frugal people I know.  She said they kept dining out to a minimum by having a cool packed with bottled water, snacks, and things to make lunches.  I assume they had a lot of picnic type meals while they were traveling.  What a wonderful way to enhance your travel experience?  We have planned to spend a lot of time at parks on our vacation, so this is definitely a wonderful solution.

Long road ahead, but so much behind me

If you haven't noticed by my lack of posts lately...I am really struggling on my journey.  My self confidence has waned.  My ambition packed a bag and left for some relaxing beach somewhere.  My motivation is really trying to stand by me, but I feel like that is going to leave soon too.  I really am trying hard to hold it all together, but I am seriously about to lose it.

The weekly meetings help keep me going.  Getting compliments from those around me pushes me too.  This past week, the compliments have been many, but I don't feel that I can truly accept them.  Mainly, because I have been slacking in tracking my food for the past couple of months.  My husband tells me to just do it.  Really, it isn't that difficult, because a) I have the app on my phone and b) I have access to e-tools that come with my Weight Watchers membership.  I increasingly have been sneaking food.  I never thought I had a food issue before, but now I realize that I do.  I am not sure why - so I hope that there will be more of this topic to come with the sole purpose of figuring out my closet food issue.

I have had weeks where I gain or stay the same.  I have also had weeks were I took the weight off.  I really must not be so hard on myself because here are the results thus far:
 1/4/2012
-19 pounds 6/21/2012 - Look at the definition in my face.

I feel that I have come along way.  Why don't I get it when I am in a funk?  Why does it take a disagreement with my co-worker or hubby for it to sink into my skull?  I know I have a long way to go, but I am knocking on the door of a 20 pound/10% lose.  Another 15ish and I am at my BC (Before Children) weight.

I have been working out quite regularly.  I even signed up for the Lazyman Triathlon at my YMCA.  I have 6 weeks to complete 2.5 miles of swimming, 112 miles of biking, and 26.2 miles of running or walking.  I have been good at the biking and walking.  The other day, I biked almost 16 miles in one sitting.  Tuesday nights I have been taking golf lessons.  Tomorrow night is my last one :( Well, until I sign up for another session ;)

I do know that I gain muscle much faster than I lose fat, especially when I am working out regularly.  I am careful to not do too much strength training, but enough to keep up good health practices.  Now, that I have truly examined the physical results I need to drive myself to keep on keeping on!

The whole purpose of keeping this blog was to keep me on track.  To push me and keep myself accountable.  I am rededicating myself to post weekly updates.  Well, except 7/4, because I will be celebrating my wedding anniversary (a couple of days late) and Independence Day with my DH (who tries really hard to be supportive despite any BS I may try to throw at him).

10 random things

It seems like a it has been a long while since I have blogged.   Sorry, for the absence.  Because I don't really know what to blog about, I think I will post 10 random things...

1. I am down a total of 18.4 pounds.

2. I am not as diligent as I once was with tracking my food.  It is getting better.   I think I need to keep the WW site up at all times.  That is what worked for me in the past.

3. I love the Weight Watchers fudge bars.  (only 1 PPV)

4.   Even though, I am down 18.4 pounds/dress size, I still see myself at my highest weight.  I think it is time for a side by side picture to prove me wrong.

5.  I got in a lot of exercise this week end.  Saturday I took my youngest to the Children's museum.  Then we went shopping.  Sunday, we went to the beach and played at a park.  When we got home I went to the YMCA and logged some miles on the bike.  Today, I went to Zumba and took the kids to the zoo.  The walk to the zoo from my parking spot was somewhere between 15 and 20 minutes pulling a wagon.

6. I like reading so much more now that I got a nook.  I have a hard time reading traditional books.

7.  I have a hard time sitting through watching a movie at home.

8. I am looking forward to chaperoning by daughter's field trip on Wednesday.

9. I love to travel.  Lately, I have had an itch to go to London.

10. I am really torn with what to reward myself for losing 20 pounds...mani/pedi, hi-lites, other salon services, maxi dress, new work out shoes....

Deep Thoughts by...me

Sometimes, you need to go back to the basics.  The past few weeks I have been struggling - seeing a gain on the scale.  After last week's gain, I decided to start over with the plan.  Start fresh, if you will.  This week the fresh start and a cold yielded me a 2.6 pound loss.  I lost the weight I gained and then some!

In other news, we are doing a traveling journal in our meeting group.  I decided to volunteer to take it home this week.  I really want to try upside down tracking.  This means instead of tracking my meals from the morning through the night, I will track starting with dinner and going through my PM snack.  This is not a tracking technique used in eTools at this point in time.  I think and hope it will help me get back on track.

Do Over

Sometimes, you just need a do over.  A restart, if you will.    It is definitely what I need with Weight Watchers.  I am officially up two of the 15 pounds I was down.  There is nothing out of my control that I can blame it on.  I got off plan - off track.  I posted the WW meal planner insert on my fridge.  Looking at it will remind me what are some good meals to throw together when I don't have time to stick to my original plan.

At tonight's meeting we talked about being good to yourself.  Too often I get taken up in taking care of the rest of my family that I forget to take care of myself.  We talked about finding friends/family/support system to be the kind of support you need.  Maybe you need a straight shooter to tell you how it is, or perhaps you need the adventurer type to help break you out of a rut.  I really need to read the weekly magazine to get more out of it.  We ended up doing a lot of laughing during the meeting and not a lot of discussing.

Body Pump

I have been in a slump for quite a few weeks.  I am trying to figure out what I can do to get back on track with tracking.  I feel like I say this each week since I fell off.

Enough whining on that topic.

I was remiss last week in my update.  I lost some of the weight I gained the week before, but gained .2 this week.  SOOOOOO, it is even more important that I get back on track.  I am behind on my plan.

Last week we talked about plan B for fitting in activity.  For me, I don't consider it a plan B.  If I can't get my booty to the Y, I crank up the music in the kitchen and have a dance party.  I don't even think about it.  It just happens.  THen there is the keeping up with the yungins.

Today, we talked about adding color to your diet.  Our leader started the meeting with, "What do you think/feel when things are colorful?"  Members responded with "Cheerful" "Energized" "Grateful"...all very positive and healthy words.  The leader than turned it around and said, "What do you think adding color to your plate will do?"  It will make me feel energized, cheerful, healthy.  How about you?

We went on to talk about adding color to 3 different meals:
1. Eggs and Toast
2. Lunch meat on a hoagie roll
3. Steak and baked potato

The most common way to add color to any of these is broccoli...so think of other things you can add.
I like to put asparagus and/or diced tomatoes in my eggs.  I like cucumbers, spinach, red onion, and olives on my sandwiches.  Salsas are good on baked potatoes.

After WW I went to a new to me class at the Y.  I figure this is my best bet to get off the plateau.  It is called BodyPump.  It is an hour long class that uses a barbell/weights.   I hurt already.  TO give credit where credit is due...DH told me I needed to do strength training because I am literally working my butt off - seriously, there is less booty.  My pants are getting really baggy in the back,.

Anchors

So, I have been off track for several weeks.  Yes, I have been losing consistently week after week, but I have not been tracking :/  This week I gained 3 pounds.

Where did these 3 pounds come from?  Lack of planning, lack of tracking, not a lack of indulging.  Yesterday, was my birthday and I have been celebrating since Saturday. About three weeks ago I fell off the "track everything I eat" wagon and "plan meals in advance" wagon.

It is really hard to get back on track.  I have a friend who once told me, "It takes 21 days to create a habit and six to break it."  YIKES!  I broke my perfectly good habit.

Last night in Weight Watchers we talked about finding your anchor.  An anchor is something that grounds you to your goal.  It could be a picture, a mantra, an object, ecetera.  We were discussing different anchors other members use.  It dawned on me that my anchor is something that our leader said in one of the first meetings I attended.  She said that we all have made attempts to lose weight before.  She asked us to explore what has worked for us in the past.  This lead to "You ___ before; you can ____ again."  I tracked before; I will track again.  I was on track before; I will be on track again.  I lost weight on the plan; I will lose weight on the plan again.  I planned my meals; I will plan my meals again.
